NAMME Honors Six Media Industry Champions of Diversity

Washington, DC—The National Association of Minority Media Executives, an influential organization of media managers and executives of color, honors a distinguished group of media industry leaders at its annual “Celebration of Diversity” awards banquet to be held April 14th at the JW Marriott Hotel, Washington, DC.

The NAMME awards recognize and honor industry leaders and pioneers who have championed the cause of diversity. This year’s honorees are:

  • Acel Moore, associate editor, The Philadelphia Inquirer (Robert C. Maynard Legend Award);
  • Gordon Parks, photojournalist, writer, novelist, poet, composer and cinematographer (Distinguished Diversity Award for Lifetime Achievement);
  • Loren Ghiglione, dean, Medill School of Journalism, Northwestern University (Lawrence Young Breakthrough Award);
  • Jeannie Park, executive editor, People magazine (Catalyst Award for Print)
  • Maria Hinojosa, correspondent, CNN (Catalyst Award for Broadcast) and
  • Omar Wasow, executive director, BlackPlanet.com, (Catalyst Award for New Media).

NAMME’s annual awards banquet celebrates the efforts of these six awardees, inspirational leaders who demonstrate courage and vision in advancing diversity in the news media. Through the unwavering commitment of each awardee, a future generation of media leaders has emerged, poised to accelerate the diversity agenda for the industry going forward.

“NAMME is excited to announce this year’s diversity award winners,” said Toni F.
