Chicago Hosts Largest Gathering of Multicultural Media Executives
(WASHINGTON, D.C.)-- Oscar Joyner, son of syndicated radio host Tom Joyner and President & Chief Operating Officer of REACH Media Inc., will headline the 2004 annual conference of the National Association of Minority Media Executives July 7-9 at the Renaissance Chicago Hotel, along with authors Guy Garcia (The New Mainstream) and Kay Iwata (The Power of Diversity: Five Essential Competencies for Leading a Diverse Workforce). The theme, "Decision Makers: Power and Responsibility," takes a strong look at how leaders make decisions during turbulent times.
"We're very excited about this conference," said NAMME Chair Vaughn Benjamin. "We're discussing real issues that affect our members, the industry and the world at large. It's going to be three intense days of learning, sharing and networking."
Author Kay Iwata kicks things off on Wednesday, July 7 during a pre- conference session that explores her research and the five competencies for leading a diverse workforce: proactive advocacy, people development, innovation, value-based leadership, and results-through-people achievement.
Author Guy Garcia will headline the Newsmaker Luncheon on Thursday, July 8. His book, The New Mainstream, offers both a wake-up call and a roadmap to the new multicultural reality in America. It explains how Americans will eat, work, play, learn and spend money in the 21st century -- and why any organization that ignores the lessons of the New Mainstream is doomed to failure.
Finally, Oscar Joyner will speak at the Newsmaker Luncheon on Friday, July 9. Joyner sits on several boards including the Tom Joyner Foundation and is responsible for creating and managing marketing synergies amongst all of the Tom Joyner brands, which include: The Tom Joyner Morning Show, The Tom Joyner Sky Show, TomJoyner.com and BlackAmericaWeb.com, The Fantastic Voyage Cruise and The Tom Joyner Foundation.
Other sessions featured at the conference include: "Image and Reality: Television's Women of Color," "Diversity in the Boardroom," and a reception featuring political analyst, author and National Public Radio senior correspondent Juan Williams.
