Michael Days

Managing Editor
Philadelphia Daily News

Amid newsroom cheers, Mike Days was recently appointed the managing editor of the Philadelphia Daily News after serving six years as deputy managing editor. A Philadelphia native, he will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the newsroom. According to the Daily News article announcing the promotion, Days, who is also considered the informal peacemaker in the newsroom, said, "I've been waiting all my life for this job."

It is not surprising that Days is a master of keeping the peace among reporters; he and his wife Angela Dodson, have raised four sons, now ages 17 - 22. Days finds that the most challenging aspect of the newspaper business is knowing that you're not doing your job if you are not making life better for readers every day.   He loves working for a newspaper that strives to make that every day difference. "We're currently waging war on the "johns" who patronize neighborhood prostitutes on the streets of Philly. We're putting their names and pictures in the papers."

Days, who started as a reporter at the paper 18 years ago, acknowledges that his best professional moment occurred when the newsroom staff broke out in cheers and toasted him with champagne when the appointment was announced. Days' editor, Zack Stalberg told Daily News reporter Scott Flander, "[Mike's] not a hot dog. He's not an emotional guy. He's extremely centered. He's the kind of person you'd like to have as a best friend."
