Suite Smartz: Turn off Automatic Hyperlinks

By Peggy Duncan

Don't want an e-mail or Web site address in your Word document to automatically turn into a hyperlink? Then, turn that feature off.

  1. Click Tools/AutoCorrect.
  2. Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.
  3. Uncheck the Replace as you type box next to Internet and network paths with hyperlinks.

In Excel, to prevent an email address or Web link from turning into a hyperlink, type an apostrophe in front of it.
