Celebrate With Us
March 5, 2006
NAMME's Annual "Celebration of Diversity" Awards Dinner is NAMME's primary fundraising event and provides crucial support for all of our programs and activities. Chief among them is the Albert E. Fitzpatrick Leadership Development Institute (LDI) for new and middle managers and NAMME's Annual Conference.
We cordially invite you to attend "A Celebration of Diversity," NAMME's Annual Awards Dinner, which honors media leaders who have done much to advance the cause of diversity in the media business. We hope we can count on your support and presence at our annual "Celebration of Diversity" awards banquet which will be held on Thursday, April 27 at the Westin in Seattle.
In addition to NAMME's traditional awards, this year we have added the "Award of Valor" as a tribute to the courage, dedication and fortitude of news professionals who overcame enormous odds to bring information and other services to those most in need. As we all know, 2005 was a difficult year: the economy, the tsunami and hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and the war in Iraq being among the most devastating. Despite the challenges, some great journalism emerged and we witnessed remarkable examples of bravery, creativity and generosity.
All 13 nominees for the "Award of Valor" are invited to attend the dinner where they will be honored for their unique contributions. Only one of these individuals will receive the "Award of Valor". We hope you will join us to pay tribute to the courageous individuals we will honor at this important event. If you cannot be present personally, we hope that you will demonstrate your support of NAMME by making a tax-deductible donation.
The recipient of the "Award of Valor" will be announced at the dinner.
"Award of Valor" nominees are: Hannah Allam, Cairo Bureau Chief, Knight Ridder; Anderson Cooper, CNN News Anchor; Yolanda Green, Community Relations Director, KHWB-TV; Tom Joyner, President/CEO, Reach Media; Larry King, CNN Host; Ricky Mathews, Publisher, Biloxi Sun Herald; David Meeks, City Editor, Times Picayune; Bryan Monroe, Asst. VP/News, Knight Ridder; Chris Osborne, Reporter ABC; Byron Pitts, CBS National Correspondent; Carl Quintanilla, NBC Reporter; Brian Thevenot, Reporter, Times Picayune; Anzio Williams, News Director, WDSU-TV.
Ninety-five percent of NAMME memberships are paid for by a member's place of employment. By coming to the dinner or making a donation to NAMME, you demonstrate that you also believe in and support the work we do. Please help NAMME expand its services and make this fundraising effort a huge success!
